New Dover District Local Plan
Consultation open now on Regulation 19 Submission Local Plan to 2040
Consultation has commenced on the Submission Local Plan until 9th December 2022. All the information about the Local Plan and the consultation can be found here on the website: Get Involved (doverdistrictlocalplan.co.uk).
What is the Local Plan?
The Local Plan guides decisions on future development proposals and opportunities of the district. Topics that the Local Plan covers include housing, employment and environment and also identifies where development should take place (specific site allocations) and areas where development should be restricted. The plan is then used by planning officers when deciding on planning applications.
We are in the process of producing a new Local Plan to 2040. Once adopted, the Local Plan will replace the current suite of Development Plan documents.
The first draft of the plan (known as Regulation 18 version) went out for public consultation in early 2021. To find out more about the new Local Plan and read the Regulation 18 draft please visit our new website www.doverdistrictlocalplan.co.uk If you made a comment (representation) during the consultation on the Local Plan in 2021 this can be viewed on the Council’s Consultation Portal (https://dover-consult.objective.co.uk/kse )
The next version of the Local Plan will be a more detailed version known as the Regulation 19 version and is the document that will be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for Examination in Public, with the intention it will be adopted.
Local Development Scheme and Timetable for Local Plan
The timetable for the production of local plan and consultation at the different stages is set out in the Local Development Scheme (LDS).
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 places a statutory duty on the Council to maintain an up-to-date Local Development Scheme (LDS) that sets out the timetable for the production of the Council's Local Plan. It is important to be kept up-to-date to reflect the Council's Local Plan progress, and in doing so keep residents and key stakeholders informed.
Cabinet Members approved an update to the Local Development Scheme (LDS) on Monday 5th September 2022.
