Ground Breaking Marks Big Investment in New Affordable Housing

Harold Street, Dover

Harold Street ground breaking

A major new affordable housing project is underway in Dover town centre.  Designed by award-winning Avanti Architects, the Harold Street development provides 24 new one and two bedroom apartments, and will be available to people on the Council’s waiting list.

The new homes will be ready for occupation in late 2020.

The redevelopment of the brownfield site brings empty land back into use and improves the public realm for the benefit of the wider neighbourhood, including a new pocket park.

In July 2019 six families moved in to new homes in Capel-le-Ferne as part of our affordable housing programme. An additional three homes were purchased to be sold as 'shared ownership' to help first time buyers get on to the housing ladder.

The purchase of the properties in Capel-le-Ferne has been funded through our Housing Initiatives Reserve, and retained Right-to-Buy receipts.
