East Kent Joint Independent Remuneration Panel

RECRUITMENT OF AN INDEPENDENT MEMBER ON THE EAST KENT JOINT INDEPENDENT REMUNERATION PANEL

 Applications are invited from any persons who wish to fill a vacancy on the East Kent Joint Independent Remuneration Panel and on the East Kent Joint Parish Remuneration Panel. 

The Panel is established in order to make recommendations to the district and parish authorities about allowances paid to elected Members in accordance with The Local Authorities (Members’ Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003. The East Kent Joint Independent Remuneration Panel and the East Kent Joint Parish Remuneration Panel will undertake this role for Dover District Council, Canterbury City Council and Thanet District Council and for the parish councils within their areas. The law requires that the East Kent Joint Parish Remuneration Panel shall consist of those members who are members of the East Kent Joint Independent Remuneration Panel.

Independent Members will need to be able to devote time to the work of the East Kent Joint Independent Remuneration Panel and to the East Kent Joint Parish Remuneration Panel and meetings will be held during the daytime and evenings. The Panels meet as is required, which is usually once or twice a year, except during years when the four yearly review of allowances is required. Independent Members will be expected to serve a minimum of one term of up to four years. A small annual allowance will be paid to Panel members with an additional allowance for each meeting they are required to attend.

Members of the Remuneration Panels should not be: 

  • a co-opted or elected member of any local authority
  • disqualified from being or becoming a member of a local authority
  • a close friend or relative of an elected member
