Act Responsibly as Pubs and Restaurants Re-Open

Pubs Open

Dover District Council and the Dover District Community Safety Partnership is calling for people to act responsibly and with consideration for others this weekend as pubs and restaurants re-open from Saturday, 4 July.

As lockdown restrictions are eased for the hospitality sector, residents are being urged to exercise moderation, maintain social distancing and wash or sanitise their hands regularly.

Cllr MJ Holloway, Chairman of the Dover District Community Safety Partnership, said: “It’s great to see our high streets coming back to life.  As pubs and restaurants re-open it’s important that we all play our part in making sure that this is done safely.

“We’re urging people not to over-do it this weekend.  We need to keep our wits about us so that we can maintain social distancing and good hygiene as Covid-19 is still with us.

“So, whilst it's good to be able to meet up with friends and family in more social settings, let’s keep each other safe by drinking responsibly.”

Dover District Council has been advising local pubs, restaurants and other hospitality businesses on how they can safely re-open through its Business Hub, a single point of contact with the Council for advice about health and safety, food safety, and licencing.

Dover District Council and Kent Police will be closely watching town centres this weekend, including the Council’s new £450,000 CCTV system which is now monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Inspector Fred McCormack of Kent Police and the Community Safety Unit, said: “Working alongside DDC, our officers will be keeping a close eye on pubs this weekend to make sure things don’t get out of hand.  We won’t tolerate behaviour that risks public safety.”
