New Playing Surface Scores Well for Footballers

Aylesham

Dover District Council Chairman, Cllr Sue Chandler, officially kicked off a new multi-use games area at Aylesham Welfare Leisure Centre last week (Wednesday 6 June).

She joined members of the under 10s squad of Snowdown & Aylesham Youth FC who were training in the new facility for the very first time. The £36,000 cost of the synthetic grass all weather surface has been met through a Section 106 payment in connection with the Aylesham Garden Village new homes development, following a successful bid to the district council for the funding by the welfare’s committee.

Cllr Chandler said: “I’m very impressed by the quality of the new games area which enables teams to play in all weathers and I’m also impressed by the commitment of players and parents who enable the club’s teams to train here once a week and play a game at weekends.”

Welfare Trust secretary Derek Garrity said: “We are delighted with the way this project has turned out and it had a lot of support from the local clubs who will be using it. We had our first multi-use games area installed 10 years ago and it has always been well used.

“The technology of  the materials in the new surface is a great improvement on our older one. It doesn’t scratch as much if you fall on it and needs only a good brushing once a week to maintain its pile.”
