Paediatric medicines facility and new venture capital fund a prescription for growth

Pfizer UK has today (20 June) announced a £5m investment at Discovery Park in a new design and advanced manufacturing capability for paediatric medicines in clinical trials.  The news comes as Discovery Parks hosts the Medicines Manufacturing Industry Partnership (MMIP) annual conference.

In addition, Kent County Council has announced a further £5m of funding from the East Kent Growth Fund which will be available for SMEs in the life sciences sector as a venture capital fund.

Cllr Keith Morris, Leader of Dover District Council, said: “It’s fantastic news that Pfizer is to invest £5 million in a new paediatric medicines advanced manufacturing facility at Discovery Park in Sandwich.  One of the district’s most significant local employers, Pfizer has a rich history of pioneering pharmaceutical R&D and medicines manufacturing in Sandwich and it’s great to see this continuing in such an important area of paediatric medicines.

“I am also delighted at the news that Kent County Council is to invest a further £5 million in a new venture capital fund as part of the East Kent Growth Fund, aimed at supporting small and medium sized enterprises in the life sciences sector, further building on Discovery Park’s reputation as a hub for bio-tech entrepreneurs and start-ups.”
