Ground Breaking Marks Big Investment in New Affordable Housing

Harold Street ground breaking

Dover District Council and local main contractor, Jenner Group, have broken ground on a major new affordable housing project in Dover town centre.  Designed by award-winning Avanti Architects, the Harold Street development provides 24 new one- and two- bedroom apartments, and will be available to people on the Council’s waiting list.  The new homes will be ready for occupation in late 2020.

Cllr Sue Chandler, cabinet member for housing, said: “This is the most ambitious housing project the Council has undertaken in decades, underlining our commitment to directly deliver new, modern affordable homes for local people.

“The redevelopment of this brownfield site brings empty land back into use and improves the public realm for the benefit of the wider neighbourhood, including a new pocket park.”

Martin Sandall, managing director of Jenner Contractors, said: “We're delighted to continue our excellent working relations with Dover District Council to deliver this prestigious development, which sets new standards in design, build and energy efficiencies.”

Jenner previously worked with Dover District Council on the award-winning development of eight flats for affordable rent on Castle Street as part of the redevelopment of the St James area, and three new council houses in Elvington.
