Stay Safe as Second National Lockdown Gets Underway

The Leader of Dover District Council has called on everyone in the district to stay safe and stick to government guidance as the second national lockdown gets underway.

From today, (Thursday November 5), everyone must stay at home, leaving only for a limited set of reasons, and all ‘non-essential’ shops must close until December 2.

DDC Leader, Cllr Trevor Bartlett, said: “We do understand how challenging another national lockdown is on our lives, our economy and our communities.  These are uncertain times for everyone, and we would call on residents across the district to stay safe and stay strong as these new restrictions are introduced.

“We continue to work closely with all our partners and Central Government to provide help and support for our communities.  Dover District is prepared, and DDC continues to work hard to provide key services for residents and businesses.”

Key services in Dover District continue, and points to note include:

  • Waste and recycling collections continue
  • Committees continue to run remotely
  • Parks and gardens remain open
  • Public toilets remain open
  • Deal Pier remains open
  • Mobile café in Kearsney Abbey remains open.

There are some changes at this time, including:

  • DDC offices in Whitfield are no longer open for appointment-only visits
  • Dover Museum is closed
  • Dover District Leisure Centre and Tides Leisure Centre are currently closed.

Cllr Bartlett said: “The community spirit that everyone has shown this year has been amazing, and it’s important we continue to pull together. We each have a responsibility to follow the rules in order to protect our loved ones and the wider community.  We all want life to return to normal, and by working together, we can all do our bit. Stay safe.”
