Winners receive their prizes and certificates from the Leader of the Council, Cllr Trevor Bartlett

Young people were invited to take part in a council-run photography competition as part of the Great British Spring Clean. They were asked to take a photo of something or somewhere in the district that made them feel proud of where they live.

There were a total of 73 entries from young photographers aged between 5 and 17 years with popular subjects chosen including the beaches, cliffs and local parks.

The judging panel consisted of Council Leader, Cllr Trevor Bartlett, Helen Charlton (Pick Deal Clean), Diane Croucher (Head of Regulatory Services), Andrzej Kluczynski (Environmental Protection & Crime Manager) and Gemma Rudgard (Technical Support Officer).

The winners were invited to a prize giving ceremony at the council offices in Whitfield. Council Leader, Cllr Trevor Bartlett, presented them with a certificate and shopping voucher and personally congratulated each of them.

He said: “I was delighted to be invited along to help judge this competition. The entries were outstanding and truly encapsulated what our district has to offer. I hope everyone enjoyed taking part as much as we enjoyed judging their entries in this popular competition. The Great British Spring Clean really has brought the whole community together, encouraging us all to take a real pride in our district.”

Daniel de Souza, age 12 and proud winner of the competition, said: I was having a walk with my sister and my dad and I saw this view and I thought 'what a beautiful world God has made'."
