A new café in Sandwich has opened after becoming the latest business to receive a welcome boost from Dover District Council’s Town Centre Business Grants Scheme.

The My Happy Place Café on King Street, Sandwich was awarded business grants totalling £15k, to help it open at the location that had been empty for over six months, and to continue to help businesses make green energy improvements for the future.

The café has been awarded a £10k empty property grant to renovate the property, and a £5k green energy grant to install LED lighting and eco-friendly heating. The new café offers a range of locally sourced products.

DDC’s Town Centre Business Grants are helping to revive high streets across the district, providing financial support to help local businesses. The scheme offers grants of up to £10k to bring commercial properties back into use, grants of up to £10k for green energy improvements, and grants of up to £1k for shopfront refurbishments.

Antonietta Cauteruccio at the café said: “Receiving the grants has helped immensely to see our vision for the café become a reality. With the council's help we could focus on all aspects including modernising the interior whilst implementing positive environmental changes. Thank you from My Happy Place Cafe.”

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, Leader of Dover District Council said: “We’re very pleased to be able to make these grants available, and to see another town centre building brought back into use and made more environmentally friendly. This is another example of how our business grant scheme is helping to support local business for the future.”
