Grand opening at the 'Big Summer Party' in Market Square, Saturday, 20 August 

A new market showcasing local food and crafts launches on Saturday, 20 August 2022 as part of the ‘Big Summer Party’ marking the grand opening of Dover’s new-look Market Square.

The Dover Artisan Market has been organised by White Cliffs Country in partnership with the Kent Farmers’ Market Association. The market runs in the Market Square from 10am to 3pm on the third Saturday of each month until the end of the year.

  • Saturday, 15 October
  • Saturday, 19 November
  • Saturday, 17 December

Around a dozen local producers will feature in the first market, and it is hoped the number of stalls will rise as the market becomes established. Among the stall holders on Saturday, 20 August will be:

  • Handmaiden’s Soap Company
  • Happy Purple Crafter
  • I Am Natural Skincare
  • Kally’s Cauldron
  • PEK On The Go
  • Reggae Shack
  • Sensai Scents
  • She Sells Refills By The Seashore
  • Sweet Indulgent Delights
  • Valhalla Prawns
  • Wakadoddles

Market Manager, Beckie Alves, said: “We’re excited to bring a new artisan market to Dover showcasing some of the wonderful local producers we have in Kent. It’s great to be bringing a regular market back to the heart of Dover town centre in the aptly named Market Square!

“We’re looking forward to being part of the ‘Big Summer Party’ on Saturday, 20 August. Why not pop down and join in with the fun and browse the stalls?”

  1. White Cliffs Country is the destination management organisation run by Dover District Council to promote tourism, hospitality, and local produce in Dover, Deal and Sandwich, and villages across the district.
  2. The 'Big Summer Party' marks the opening of Dover’s £3.6m revamped Market Square on Saturday, 20 August (10am - 5pm) with the launch of the Dover Artisan Market and a day of live music and performances, and a kite-flying festival.
  3. The £3.6m revamp of the Market Square creates a more welcoming environment for local shoppers and a focal point for visitors to the town centre, including a new event space and a unique water feature. The project was funded by £2.44m from the Coastal Communities Fund secured by the Dover Town Team, and £1.2m from Dover District Council. Dover Town Council has also contributed to the project.
