A specially renamed Platinum Jubilee Playpark has swung into action at Cowdray Square - with the official opening at the Deal park today, (Friday, 17 June).

The playpark was officially opened by the Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Michael Conolly.  The launch follows an exciting play area upgrade, and an investment of over £100k in new facilities at the location.

The renovation follows consultation with the local community, and features inclusive play equipment and a range of new items to suit all ages.

Features include:

  • 3 cradle swings, a basket swing and a rope swing
  • Toddler and junior multiplay units
  • Spring rockers
  • Spinning dish
  • Zip wire/aerial runway
  • Inclusive roundabout suitable for wheelchair users
  • Picnic benches.

The items above have been funded from Government funding, allocated by Kent County Council for community parks.

Other renovations at the park include a new designated dog walking area, and new football goalposts, funded by Dover District Council. Further planting will also be taking place across the autumn.

Cllr Michael Conolly, Chairman of Dover District Council, said: “We are delighted to be able to open the Platinum Jubilee Playpark at Cowdray Square in Deal, as we continue to join with our communities in celebrating this incredible landmark year marking Her Majesty the Queen’s historic Platinum Jubilee.”

The Government funding also paid for a refurbishment of the Connaught Park play area in Dover, which was completed in March 2022. Works at Connaught Park included the replacement of the existing wooden logs surrounding the play area and the replacement of the existing slide on the multiplay unit.
