Shining a Light on Dover Beacon Proposal - See the Plans for Dover's Levelling Up Bid

Dover District Council is holding an engagement event at St Mary’s Parish Centre, Dover, from 2pm to 6pm on Wednesday 15 June 2022 for their exciting proposed ‘Dover Beacon’ project - the Council’s Levelling Up Fund Round 2 bid and application.

The ‘Dover Beacon’ proposal focuses on skills, training and jobs, and represents a unique opportunity to unlock the potential of the Bench Street area of Dover, which local people have often complained gives a poor first impression of the town. The proposals will help to expand, develop and meet growing demand for education and training opportunities in the area, with the Council working directly with Dover Technical College (The EKC Group) as part of the bid.

Dover is recognised by the Government as a priority area for Levelling Up, alongside Arts Council ‘Priority Place’ status and a Historic England Places Panel recognition of need.

The engagement event is open to all, and people are invited to come along to discuss and to learn more about the ‘Dover Beacon’ project, as well as to leave their views and thoughts as part of a short survey.

The Levelling Up Fund Round 2 Prospectus was launched in March 2022. It aims to support projects that will make a visible positive difference to local areas, with three investment themes of regeneration and town centre investment, cultural investment (and heritage), and transport investment.

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, Leader of Dover District Council said: “These exciting proposals represent a major opportunity to boost skills, education and jobs in the area, and this funding would bring transformational investment in regeneration. We are working hard to keep people informed as the proposals progress, and we hope as many people as possible come along to this event to find out more and share their views.”
