Sleighing Saturday Shopping Parking Charges - Free Parking and Christmas Events This December

Dover District Council is to offer free parking in its car parks for the Christmas period on Saturdays in December this year, including Small Business Saturday (3 December), Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

As part of our ongoing work to support local businesses, DDC’s Cabinet has agreed to offer free parking in Council car parks on Saturdays 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 December.

This complements a range of free festive activities in the district, including the two-day Dover Winter Light Up on Friday and Saturday 2/3 December. The event includes the Dover Winter Fire Garden on the Roman Lawn on 2 and 3 December, sponsored by The Port of Dover, and a range of seasonal stalls and entertainment in Dover Market Square on Saturday 3 December with a Winter Lantern Procession lighting up Dover from 6pm, delivered by Future Foundry, and sponsored by DDC, Dover Town Council and Dover Town Team. For more details, see the White Cliffs Country pages.

On Saturday 10 December, there will also be a fantastic Meet the Reindeer event in Dover Market Square, with a range of market stalls and entertainment, as well as live reindeer, and the chance to meet Father Christmas in his grotto.  For more details, please see the White Cliffs Country pages

On Saturday 3 December, there will also be the Christmas Lights Switch on in Sandwich, for more details, please see the What’s On pages.

Small Business Saturday is designed to raise the profile of small business across the UK.  With many retailers now gearing up for the festive season, DDC wants more people to recognise the value, quality and choice local independent traders provide.

Free Saturday parking in December applies to DDC-owned car parks. On-street parking charges will still apply, and all other parking restrictions, like yellow lines will continue to be enforced.

Cllr Chris Vinson, DDC Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “We are delighted to offer free parking in DDC car parks again this year.  We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors, and hope everyone will take full advantage of this excellent opportunity, enjoy visiting a range of great events, and make the most of the fantastic shopping opportunities offered by local traders in the run up to Christmas.”
