The Bees Tale

Book Launch - 'The Bees Tale'

Maison Dieu (Dover Town Hall)
16 September 2022, 7-8pm

Join the buzz at Dover’s historic Maison Dieu this Friday 16 September at 7pm for the launch of The Bees Tale, a charming concertina book, by Creative Pilgrim, artist and illustrator Alexandra Le Rossignol, inspired by bees and pilgrim sites and stories on the pilgrim route from Dover to Canterbury, including the medieval Trendyll Candle, the Maison Dieu, historic parish churches and Canterbury Cathedral.

The evening includes the opportunity to meet Alex, listen to a short reading from her book and buy a signed copy.

Visitors will also be able to see work in progress on the Reawakening the Maison Dieu National Lottery Heritage Fund project and find all about the action-packed Kent Pilgrims's Festival which runs across East Kent from 21 to 25 September, with a host of events planned in Dover for adults and families.

Martin Crowther, Engagement Officer for the Maison Dieu commented: “We are delighted to host the launch of this beautifully illustrated, imaginative and utterly charming book, which takes the reader on a creative pilgrimage from Dover to Canterbury, alongside Alex and the bees. Come along to discover the strange tale of Dover’s Trendyll Candle, the medieval beeswax seal of the Maison Dieu, and the bee boles of Canterbury Cathedral!”

A small selection of archaeological finds from the medieval pilgrim hospital will also be on display, excavated in April 2022 in a community dig outside the Stone Hall.

The Bees Tale book launch is a free event and there is no need to book. Refreshments will be served. For more information visit www.maisondieudover.org
