Residents and businesses are being advised of some restrictions as Maison Dieu restoration gets underway
Dover District Council (DDC) is advising residents and businesses of local restrictions as work gets underway on the £10.5m Lottery-funded restoration of the Maison Dieu.
The reawakening of the Grade I Listed Town Hall is the Council’s most ambitious heritage restoration project to date and is set to transform the fortunes of the iconic town centre building.
From 23 January 2023 the Ladywell public car park to the rear of the Maison Dieu will close for the duration of the restoration project. The car park is being used as a compound for the works which are expected to take 18 months.
Hoardings are also being extended to widen the existing compound along the south side of the Maison Dieu, whilst scaffolding will be erected along the entire length of the Ladywell side of the Maison Dieu with a pedestrian ‘tunnel’ to allow safe access along the pavement.
The bin store used by residents of the former art college flats, The Hive and Biggin Hall is being moved from its current location opposite Biggin Hall to a new site near the entrance to Ladywell car park.
The project team aim to minimise disruption to neighbouring properties during the restoration project, and principal contractors Coniston are writing to nearby residents and businesses to inform them of the works, and to provide contact details for any enquiries.
