Dover District Council has been welcoming families into brand new council homes at Sandwich Road in Sholden.
Twenty-three new affordable homes have been acquired by DDC at Sholden Meadows. These include a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties, as well as homes for shared ownership, with 15 made available for affordable rent and eight for shared ownership.
The council has also committed to purchase a further 16 properties at the site later this financial year.
This follows news in May that DDC acquired five three bed homes at the Sholden Pastures development, that were made available to people though the council’s shared ownership scheme, as well as two four-bed properties for let at affordable rent.
This also follows news in January that tenants were welcomed to new homes at Wingfield Place in Deal. The 48 affordable properties were bought by the council with the support of Homes England funding and developer contributions, with 38 let at social rent and 10 offered under the shared ownership scheme.
These homes are adding to DDC’s growing number of council houses. The council continues to explore new opportunities to provide more council homes.
Cllr Pamela Brivio, DDC Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “We are delighted to welcome families into these new homes. We’re very pleased to be able to offer these council homes for rent and new homes under the shared ownership scheme.
“As a council we are working hard to deliver all types of homes to suit the needs of our communities, and we remain committed to growing our council house numbers so we can provide secure homes to our residents who need them.”

Notes
Affordable housing includes social and affordable rented homes, provided to eligible households whose needs are not met by the market. It also includes shared ownership, which supports first-time buyers into home ownership.
There are different types of rent. Social rent is paid to registered providers or local authorities. It is low-cost and set by a government formula. Affordable rent is rent that is set at up to 80% of market rent.
