In 2015 the Dover District Heritage Strategy won the category of 'Excellence in Planning for Built Heritage' at the RTPI South East Awards for Planning Excellence.

The Strategy has identified common themes or groups which particularly contribute to local character or have played a role in the development of the District, for example, archaeology, agriculture and coast.

The Heritage Strategy has been reviewed and updated (September 2020) to take note of changes and updates that have occurred since its adoption in 2013, to ensure that it is consistent with guidance from Central Government and that it remains robust and fit for purpose.
