Request

We require specific information to assist us to address the accessible housing shortage / demand in the local area.

We would like to submit a formal request for the following information:

  1. The current local demand for accessible properties (i.e. Bungalows)
  2. How many individuals are currently on the waiting list for this type of accessible housing?
  3. How long is the current waiting list? (i.e. How long are people generally waiting for suitable accessible housing that meets their needs)
  4. What property specifications are required? (i.e. M4(2), M4(3) - Minimum size ft, number of bedrooms)
  5. What type of property is most in demand? (i.e. One bed, two bed, M4(2), M4(3)?)
  6. How are the rental costs worked out? (i.e.  Is there a maximum limit per month? (We need to understand this to help us cost potential properties)).

Response

  1. See response to question 2.
  2. There are currently 1844 households registered. Of these, 235 have stated that they need a level access property.
  3. In the last 12 months we have housed 61 applicants who required level access. The average waiting time was 1181 days. This figure is based on the time between joining the housing register and accepting an offer of accommodation.
  4. The Council does not hold this information.
  5. One bedroom properties are in most demand.
  6. This information is available on the Council’s website at https://www.dover.gov.uk/Housing/Housing-for-Tenants/PDF/Housing-Services-Rent-Setting-policy-ONLINE.pdf
