Response
Under Section 1(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act, we have established that this information is not held. This is because Dover District Council does not hold a register of short-term or holiday lets. For the Valuation Office (VOA) to add the business to the Rating List and charge Business Rates the business would need to meet the following criteria:
- available to let for 140 days in the past year
- available to let for 140 days in the coming year
- It has been let for 70 days in the past year
If the business does not meet these criteria, then the VOA adds the property to the Valuation list and Council Tax is charged under the classification of Unoccupied and furnished (2nd Home). As this classification covers all properties and not just holiday lets, we would be unable to identify holiday lets from Council Tax data.
