  1. The standard yellow Roman Painted House guidebook was available for sale for this half term at the Dover Museum but not at the Roman Painted House.  Why was the guide only for sale at the Museum and not at the actual Roman Painted House?
  2. During half term period, this month vehicles were parked outside the entrance preventing vehicles entering the Roman Painted House car park including disabled drivers.  What remedial action has DDC taken to resolve this obstruction of the entrance?  Has DDC reported offenders to the police?  If not, why not?  The entrance is needed for visitors and for emergency vehicles.
  3. There are no chairs or rest areas within the Roman Painted House.  What arrangements have been made allowing people to rest if they become ill while working or visiting the Roman Painted House?
  4. The basement main gas heater (I was informed last year it was faulty) was not in use during this half term.  Why was this as its use is essential for the safety of structure.  When was this heater last used and tested?

Response

  1. Guidebooks have been on sale at Roman Painted House (RPH) and Museum since August. RPH had sold out by Wednesday of half term and we had not had chance to transfer more from the Museum. Additional stock was transferred on the Friday of half term week.
  2. There are currently no parking restrictions that we are able to enforce for the area directly in front of the entrance. This is being reviewed as the inconsiderate and dangerous parking in this location is something we would like to help reduce through adding appropriate parking restrictions that would then be enforceable. Should a car become blocked in the car park and unable to get out this is dealt with by contacting the police who will either remove the vehicle or contact the owner to get it moved.
  3. There are eight chairs on the lower level for visitors to use. If anyone becomes ill upstairs, the staff will get a chair from the office.
  4. The officer dealing with this matter is currently away from the office, but the Council are working with Heritage England to review the heating for the building
