Request

  1. It was stated the sign I asked about cost £3,750.  Please confirm the cost of each of the other three signs.  For example, 4 at £3,750 and give please a total.
  2. You state showing distances in fractions of miles would not be easy to understand.  No signs are in fractions of miles but in yards as required by law as below.  What is meant by fractions of miles?
  3. The TSRGD (SI Order 2016-862) requires all measurements must be displayed in miles and yards in highway direction or information signs and using solely metric units (m or k) is unlawful.  Why has the Council not complied with the law?
  4. What remedial action does the Council intend to take to comply with the current traffic signs regulations?  If the Council does not intend to take remedial action, please state why not.
  5. As most if not all distances stated on the signs are wrong again what remedial action does the Council intend to take so the distances given are accurate and correct?  Again if the Council does not intend to take remedial action, please state why not.

Response

  1. The signs were £3,750 each with a total of £15,000.
  2. We wanted to keep it simple and understandable by as many people as possible.  200m is easier to understand than 1/8 mile or 219 yards.
  3. These are not official traffic signs, just a colourful way to inform and lead visitors in the direction of places of interest.
  4. None.  These are not official traffic signs, just a colourful way to inform and lead visitors in the direction of places of interest.
