Screenshot 2025-09-26 170901Dover District Council has offered a range of apprenticeships, graduate placements and work experience since 2012 and has numerous apprentice success stories.

The scheme allows people to learn on the job while studying for a recognised qualification. It’s also a great way to upskill existing employees, or grow the workforce by bringing in new talent, giving people valuable career pathways.

Boost your business - fund an apprentice with DDC

If you’re an employer in the Dover district looking to recruit and train staff, we can help!

The council can transfer part of its Apprenticeship Levy to employers in the district who wish to offer apprenticeship qualifications to their employees.

The levy fund is used to cover the training costs of an apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship training costs can range from £1,500 to £27,000, depending on the level of qualification. Training methods include online learning, classroom sessions, and one-to-one tuition.

The scheme can:

  • upskill your existing employees, improving loyalty and retention

  • grow the skills and talent within your team

  • create new apprenticeship opportunities that would not exist without the funding.

Eligibility

At the moment, the council is inviting applications from employers who wish to recruit and train staff for up to 2 years or up to Level 4.

To participate in the scheme, you must:

  • have a business or organisation based in the Dover district

  • be ready to use the funds to train a Dover district resident

  • pay the wages of your apprentice (the transferred funds can only cover the apprenticeship training costs)

  • pay your staff and apprentices the minimum wage for their age

  • provide updates on how your apprentice is progressing in their role.

This scheme is an excellent opportunity to support apprenticeship growth within the Dover district, while developing your workforce and giving local residents valuable career pathways.

How to Apply:

Before you apply for an apprenticeship levy fund transfer through DDC, you will need to know the following details:

  • the apprenticeship standard your apprentices will be undertaking

  • how many apprentices you need funding for

You will also need an apprenticeship service account to apply for a transfer to fund an apprenticeship for your business.

If you do not have an apprenticeship service account you can read the guidance on setting one up.

Once you have the apprenticeship details and account set up, please apply directly via the Dover District Council apprenticeship levy pledge
