Places for People Leisure (PfP Leisure) formally took over the management of the Dover Leisure Centre from 1 April 2018 and is already making a splash with free swimming for children under 8 years of age, when accompanied by a full paying adult*.

PfP Leisure is one of the country’s leading leisure centre operators and will also run the new Dover District Leisure Centre currently under construction in Whitfield and due to open early in 2019.

The new leisure centre will include the first county-standard competition swimming pool in Kent, along with a learner pool incorporating a moveable floor.  The main pool will also include ‘pool pods’ providing easy access for wheelchair users.

Steve Warriner, Area Manager for PfP Leisure, said: “Swimming skills are fundamental for children.  Regular swimming helps children become confident and familiar with water, especially with a parent or family members.  Being in the water with someone they trust shows them that it’s safe and fun!”

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, Cabinet Member for Property Management, said: “We’re delighted to be working with PfP Leisure to increase participation and promote healthy lifestyles in the district.  It’s great to see them making a strong start by providing free swimming for children under 8.”
