Dover District Council is celebrating news that Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for the fifth year running.
The Green Flag accreditation is an international quality mark for parks and green spaces and is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team caring for the parks.
Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens have met the quality standard every year since the completion of the £3.1m ‘Parks for People’ project in 2021 with the National Lottery Heritage and Community Funds.
This also follows news that an exciting new-look play area in Kearsney Abbey is set to swing into action following the go ahead for an exciting range of renovations totalling over £150k at the popular park near Dover.
Cllr Lynne Wright, DDC Cabinet Member for Community and Corporate Property, said: “We’re delighted to see Kearsney Parks awarded the Green Flag once again. The award recognises the commitment and dedication of everyone who works so hard to maintain these important community assets, from DDC staff to volunteers and members of the public.”
Congratulating this year's winners, Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said: "Our quality parks and green spaces make the UK a healthier place in which to live and work, and a stronger place in which to invest ... The Green Flag Award sets the standard for caring for these sites amid growing recognition that our green spaces can be part of the climate solution."
