Play area renovations in Kearsney Abbey

An exciting new-look play area in Kearsney Abbey is set to swing into action following news of the go ahead for an exciting range of renovations totalling over £150k at the popular park near Dover.

At its meeting yesterday, DDC Cabinet accepted a £20k National Lottery Awards for All grant to help enable a high-quality refurbishment at the Kearsney Abbey play area.  This is in addition to £135k allocated to the project by DDC.

This follows news earlier this year of a range of renovations totalling around £180k for three play areas in the district, at Travers Road in Deal, Marke Wood in Walmer and the Bulwarks in Sandwich.

Consultation with children and families is set to take place this summer to seek feedback on what people would like to see in the new play area in Kearsney Abbey. We will be seeking views on preferred types of play equipment and a theme for the area. The Community Roots van will be at Kearsney Abbey in the morning on 7 and 27 August.

Cllr Lynne Wright, DDC Cabinet Member for Corporate Property, said: “We are very pleased to continue to develop and improve play area facilities across the district, enhancing parks for local communities and helping to encourage parents and children to enjoy exercise and fresh air in safe outside spaces.”

For more information on play areas, please see the play areas pages on the DDC website, or for more information on Kearsney Abbey, please see the Kearsney Parks website. For more details on the play area project, please see the report to Cabinet.
