A new-look play area in Travers Road in Deal is now up and running – following news of an exciting range of renovations totalling around £180k for three play areas in Dover District.
The Travers Road play area was officially opened by Cllr Gordon Cowan, Chairman of Dover District Council on Friday (9 May).
New equipment at Travers Road play area includes a new jungle themed multiplay unit, basket swing and a roundabout, following investment of around £34k thanks to a developer contribution.
This also follows news of further renovations at Marke Wood play area in Walmer and the Bulwarks play area in Sandwich, which are due to open over the coming weeks.
A range of improvements at the other two parks include:
- Marke Wood – new junior and toddler multiplay units, a track rider tower and sensory equipment – following investment of around £88k thanks to money from DDC, Walmer Town Council and developer contributions
- The Bulwarks - a new junior multiplay unit, basket swing and an inclusive spring seesaw - following a total investment of over £58k thanks to money from DDC, Sandwich Town Council and Southern Water.
All three projects follow consultation with the local community in May last year to find out what improvements people would like to see. All three sites feature inclusive play equipment and a range of new items to suit all ages and abilities.
This also follows exciting news that Kearsney Abbey play area near Dover will be undergoing a major redevelopment during 2026. For latest updates on improvements at Kearsney Parks, please see www.kearsneyparks.co.uk
