Dover District Council (DDC) welcomes the appointment of Nick Holbrook-Sutcliffe as Chair of the Pride in Place Board for Buckland and St Radigunds in Dover.

Nick brings extensive senior leadership experience across education, community development and place‑based investment. He will lead the programme in partnership with a newly formed Board, with recruitment taking place later this month.

The Pride in Place Programme is the Government’s flagship communities’ initiative, designed to empower local people to shape the future of their neighbourhoods. Backed by up to £5 billion over 10 years, it represents a long‑term commitment to strengthening the foundations of communities across the country.

Buckland and St Radigunds have been selected to receive up to £20 million over the next decade. The programme places residents at the heart of decision‑making, ensuring investment is directed towards the projects and priorities that matter most locally.

Decisions will be made by a Neighbourhood Board in consultation with the community, supported by DDC, Dover MP Mike Tapp and central government. Pride in Place will provide long‑term investment, strengthen local connections and shared spaces, and give communities a stronger voice in shaping their future.

Nick’s professional background includes serving as a member of the executive team for a large and successful college group, providing strategic leadership for curriculum, government reform implementation, skills funding, and ensuring provision is responsive to local and regional needs. His work has consistently focused on strengthening the economic and social prosperity of the diverse communities he serves.

Alongside his professional expertise, Nick has a strong track record of leading major, multi-agency programmes that connect education, communities and place. He supported the Dover Beacon Levelling Up Fund bid, working closely with local partners to shape a strategic and locally grounded vision for investment across the town. As Vice Chair of Pathways for All in Kent, he also brings governance experience centred on inclusion, partnership and championing those whose voices are often overlooked.

Nick combines this strategic leadership with a deep personal commitment to Dover. He said: “I am genuinely humbled to be appointed as Chair of the Pride in Place Board. This programme represents a significant opportunity for Buckland, St Radigunds and the wider Dover community, one shaped directly by local voices and local priorities.

“I am looking forward to working closely with residents, community partners and our key local representatives to ensure we meet the scale and importance of the work ahead. Pride in Place has the potential to create meaningful and lasting impact, and I am fully committed to leading this work collectively so that the investment delivers a lasting legacy our communities can be proud of."
