A summer drive to continue to help reduce the amount of litter on our local beaches has been launched – with the return of the successful #LoveYourBeach campaign.
The campaign is being run by Dover District Council, in conjunction with Folkestone and Hythe District Council and waste contractor, Veolia, and includes a range of initiatives to raise awareness and help keep beaches clean around the district.
As part of the initiative, the e-bike collection vehicle is returning to Deal and Walmer, (pictured below), to help with the emptying of bins along the promenade, allowing crews to access areas larger vehicles may not be able to reach.
Additional signage encouraging residents to bin their litter or take it home with them is also being posted around the district.
There are also five new compactor bins in the Deal and Walmer area, funded by Southern Water. There are two bulk bins on Deal Pier from our contractors Veolia, and the summer beach cleaners from Veolia have started daily beach cleans, covering the beach areas between Kingsdown and Deal.
Cllr Edward Biggs, DDC Cabinet Member for Planning and Built Environment said: “We love to see our residents and visitors enjoying themselves at the district’s beaches. But it’s important to remember not to leave your litter behind, to protect the environment and keep beaches safe and looking great for the future.”
