Free sports sessions at Pencester Gardens

Young people in the district can enjoy more after-school and holiday fun with the return of the free Hang10 multi-sport sessions at Pencester Gardens in Dover.

Sessions were previously held by DDC from June to October 2025, funded by the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), and proved so popular that they are returning. They will again be funded by the PCC and will run through February and March this year.

Delivered by the charity Uprising Youth and Community as part of its Hang10 project, the sessions will offer a range of sporting activities. These include football, swing ball, badminton and Panna football skills – and young people attending will also have a say in what they would like to do.

The sessions are aimed at 11 to 16‑year‑olds, but all ages are welcome to join in. There’s no need to book – just turn up. Activities will take place on the grassed areas at Pencester Gardens.

They begin on Wednesday, 4 February, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, and will run every Wednesday until 25 March, with an additional session on Monday 16 February during half term.

Cllr Lynne Wright, DDC’s Cabinet Member for Community, said: “We’re delighted to have received more funding from the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner to continue these free sessions. They proved popular when we ran them last year with young people telling us how much they enjoyed them.

“These multi-sport sessions are a great way to meet new people, try new activities for free and benefit from the wellbeing that being active brings.”
