Appointment of Sandwich Port and Haven Commissioner
We are seeking to appoint a high calibre individual with an interest in public service to fill a vacancy that has arisen on the Sandwich Port and Haven Commission.
The role of Sandwich Port and Haven Commissioner is an honorary position. The individual appointed will serve until 20 February 2028 and be expected to attend four daytime meetings of the Commission annually.Trust ports differ from company or local authority-owned ports by their constitution and powers. All port activities are funded from within revenue, supplemented in some cases by commercial borrowing up to prescribed limits. The Sandwich Port and Haven Commission’s remit is to manage, maintain and improve the Port of Sandwich. Members of the Commission have a range of local or specialist interests and are typically also (but not necessarily) members of local authorities, port-users or involved in shipping or other stakeholder groups.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven track record in their chosen profession or other activities, such as community work. Formal qualifications are not essential, but applicants will need to demonstrate that they have the relevant experience and a genuine interest in the Port, be it from a commercial, employment, recreational or conservational perspective. Familiarity with issues affecting Sandwich and the surrounding region is highly desirable, as is an interest in nature conservation. Dover District Council is committed to attracting and recruiting people who are best suited to meet the requirements of our vacancies without regard to race, ethnic origins, colour, sexual orientation, nationality, disability, age, religion or belief (or lack of), gender or marital status.
