Check if you're eligible

Social housing is the most affordable type of housing and is rented from either the council or a housing association.

To bid for social housing, you must first apply to the housing register which is a list of households in the Dover district that are eligible and qualify for a council or housing association home.

The housing register provides a fair and transparent way for people to access suitable homes, prioritising those in greatest need such as families facing overcrowding, homelessness or medical issues.

If you have enough space for your family according to current housing policy and you are in a financial position to secure other housing options, you will be considered to be adequately housed.

Please note, rules over eligibility are complex and this is only a summary. They are correct at the time of writing but may change in the future.

Equality and diversity

We are committed to providing a housing service that is fair, accessible and respectful to everyone in our community.

We will monitor access to the housing list and how needs are assessed to ensure our process remains fair in accordance with our equality impact assessment. No one will be treated unfairly or be unlawfully discriminated against for any reason.
