How to pay your council tax

Direct Debit

Pay your bill automatically each month with a Direct Debit. It’s safe, secure and the simplest way to pay. These payments are protected by a guarantee.

Sign up for Direct Debit

You will need:

  • your council tax account reference (found on your bill)
  • your bank account details

You can download a Direct Debit paper form if required

If you have received a recovery notice for a previous years' balance and you wish to set up a Direct Debit to pay, you also need to complete a special payment arrangement form.

This form is also available if you wish to set up a payment plan.

Special payment arrangement

If you are late paying or don't pay

The instalment date on your bill is the date by which payment should have reached your council tax account, so you should make arrangements to make sure the money arrives in time.

If you haven't spoken to us about a problem paying your bill and you miss an instalment, we will ask you for payment.

Struggling to pay?

If you have difficulty paying your council tax at any time, contact us straight away. We are here to help, but once a summons has been issued the options are limited and payment arrangements will include costs.
