Bulky item collection service

Due to Environment Agency guidance, we can no longer send upholstered domestic seating to landfill because it may contain harmful chemicals called Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

These items are now collected separately and sent for incineration to safely destroy the pollutants.

POPs items include any soft or upholstered seating from homes or businesses that contains leather, synthetic leather, fabric, foam or soft furnishings — such as sofas, armchairs, dining chairs, footstools, bean bags and cushions.

If your bulky waste collection includes both POPs and non-POPs items, they’ll usually be picked up on the same day, but possibly by different vehicles at different times.

Only contact us if your items haven’t been collected by the day after your booking date.

If an item is ripped or damaged and contains materials like foam, leather, synthetic leather or other fabrics, it must be taped, wrapped or bagged.

For example, if a sofa has a tear exposing the foam, the tear must be taped over, or if a cushion is ripped, it should be placed in a bag or sack.

We cannot collect items that are not properly secured. This measure is to protect those handling these items.

At this current time, our contractors can’t collect items from inside your home or back garden.
Please leave them at the front of your property with clear access.

If your items are not left out on the agreed date and time, no refund will be given.

Collections are organised into areas. This keeps costs down, is better for the environment and allows us to provide more collections per day.

We will tell you the date of your collection when you make the booking.

Another date will be offered but the day will not change. This is to keep costs down.

Black sacks are not considered bulky and should be placed out on refuse day in the containers provided.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) helps reduce the environmental impact of electrical and electronic items by encouraging re-use and recycling, and cutting down on landfill waste.

It does this by making producers pay for collecting and recycling old electrical items, and requiring retailers to let customers return them for free.
