Food waste collection

We collect food waste every week as part of your kerbside collection service. It is mixed with other organic waste and turned into compost that farmers can use for fertiliser.

Food waste is collected every week between 7am and 4pm so put it out on the boundary of your property with either your recycling or refuse on your collection day. It is collected by a separate vehicle to your other waste so this might happen at a different time.

Food from your green food caddy is tipped into a ‘transfer’ wheelie bin and then taken to the next property. When the transfer bin is full it is tipped into the back of the collection vehicle.

Kitchen caddy and outside food bin

Two green outdoor food containers, a grey food caddy with the lid shut and a grey food caddy containing food waste.

You will have a grey caddy for your kitchen as well as a green outside food bin.

  • line your grey kitchen caddy with newspaper or compostable liners - please do not use plastic bags!
  • when it's full or you no longer want the contents in your kitchen, transfer it to your green outside lockable food bin
  • on your collection day, place the green outside food bin outside your property, with the handle in the locked position.

What can I put in my food waste bin?
