We collect food waste every week as part of your kerbside collection service. It is mixed with other organic waste and turned into compost that farmers can use for fertiliser.
Food waste is collected every week between 7am and 4pm so put it out on the boundary of your property with either your recycling or refuse on your collection day. It is collected by a separate vehicle to your other waste so this might happen at a different time.
Food from your green food caddy is tipped into a ‘transfer’ wheelie bin and then taken to the next property. When the transfer bin is full it is tipped into the back of the collection vehicle.

You will have a grey caddy for your kitchen as well as a green outside food bin.

on your collection day, place the green outside food bin outside your property, with the handle in the locked position.

The grey kitchen caddy is 25cm wide, 21cm deep and 21cm high.
The green outdoor food bin is 32cm wide, 40cm deep and 41cm high.
Standard outside food bins in the district hold 23 litres and food waste makes up around 15% of your total household waste.
For most homes, this bin is large enough to hold a week's worth of food waste.
No, empty the contents of the caddy into the large green lockable external food bin.
If your food waste is not collected it may be for one of the following reasons:
the bin may contain the wrong waste
the bin may not have been put out on time.
If your collection has been missed, report it with 24 hours and we will return to collect it.
Compostable/biodegradable bags can be bought from supermarkets, household and DIY stores, or online. Remember, you can also use newspaper to line the inside of your food waste caddy.
If your bin goes missing on the day of collection then please report this to us.
Communal recycle bins will be provided. The size is dependant on the number of flats. Each flat will receive a food caddy and when full can be emptied into the communal food bin ready for the weekly collection.
