Miners Welfare Institutes

A Club is a miners welfare institute if it is established and conducted:

a) for social and recreational purposes and either

b) its affairs are managed by a group of individuals of whom at least two thirds are "miners representatives"; or

c) It operates on premises the use of which is regulated in accordance with a charitable trust and the trust has received money from:

  • The Miners Welfare Fund (established by Section 20, Mining Industry Act 1920); or
  • The former Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation; or
  • The Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation
