Taxi Licensing

Under the current circumstances, we will continue to provide a service as best we can and would ask for your patience at this time.

For any driver/vehicle renewals, please ensure your paperwork and fee are submitted (preferably electronically) as early as possible, and an officer will call you once your plates are ready to collect. Badges will be issued and sent out once a week so it is imperative that you apply in good time to avoid disruption to your licence.

Please note there will be no vehicle inspections during this period, plates will be issued upon receipt of application and payment.

Emails are being checked and the phone lines are open between 9am-5pm so please contact the Licensing Team using these methods. The number for the Licensing Team is 01304 872295 and the email is licensing@dover.gov.uk.

This morning I have received notification that Taxis and private hire vehicles can continue to work. But the advice is absolutely clear - people should stay at home if possible. That is the way to save lives and protect our NHS. The public should avoid travel unless absolutely essential. The only reasons to leave our houses are set out in the government guidance. Clearly if absolutely necessary to travel by taxi or private hire vehicle, best efforts should be used to follow the guidance as far as is practically possible, including washing your hands as soon as you get home. Critical Worker StatusTaxi and private hire drivers should not generally be considered Critical Workers. Those undertaking Home to School transport or the transport of ‘extremely vulnerable’ people may be considered Critical Workers on a case-by-case basis. Critical Workers should also whenever possible make suitable arrangements for their children to stay at home; requests for children to attend school should be discussed with the school.” Therefore in practice this means that only essential journeys must be undertaken.  You are reminded to keep monitoring the announcements made by the Prime Minister each day and consider your position accordingly.
