Rise & Thrive: A Motivational Day for the Armed Forces Community
Join us for Rise and Thrive, a free one‑day event at the Maison Dieu (Dover Town Hall) on Saturday 7 February, dedicated to veterans, ex‑military personnel, reservists, and cadets from the Dover District and beyond.
We’re honoured to welcome Hari Budha Magar, who made history on 19 May 2023 as the first double above‑knee amputee to summit Mount Everest — a remarkable achievement in resilience and determination.
A former soldier of the Royal Gurkha Rifles, Hari lost both legs in 2010 after stepping on an improvised explosive device (IED) while serving in Afghanistan. He will be joining us to share his extraordinary story of recovery, ambition, and strength.
Rise and Thrive offers a chance to access tailored support, connect with others who share similar experiences, and take positive steps toward thriving in civilian life.
The day will include:
- Motivational speakers with lived experience of transition and resilience.
- Specialist support agencies, including Royal British Veterans Enterprises, LifeWorks, RBL Dover, the Royal Marines Association, Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, the Army Recruitment Team, and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), offering guidance on mental health, employment, housing, and wellbeing.
- Opportunities to build community connections, combat isolation, and celebrate service.
Be part of a day that empowers, connects, and celebrates the Armed Forces community. Tickets are free and allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis — book yours now.
