  1. How many CCTV cameras does the Borough own and/or is the 'Data Controller' for?
  2. How many of these CCTV cameras are set to record video?
  3. How many times in the past 5 years has the Borough released recorded CCTV data to a member of the public in response to a Personal Data Access request/FOI request or similar request?
  4. How many times in the past 5 years has the Borough released recorded CCTV data in response to a request from the courts or legal representative?
  5. When releasing CCTV video, is it Borough policy to redact or blur out the faces of uninvolved members of the public who may have been incidentally captured on the video being released?
  6. If so, is this video redaction ('blurring out') task carried out by Borough staff in-house or performed by an outside agency/service provider?

Response

  1. 118
  2. 118
  3. Two
  4. Since January 2023 we received 1,538 requests for review; of those, 763 were downloaded/provided.  The Council does not hold any records for any earlier time periods as this is outside of the retention period for this data.
  5. The Council would only redact footage of members of public, if a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) has been requested. Other authorities ie Kent Police would be responsible for redacting footage if needed for proceedings.
  6. Where any internal redacting is required, this would be completed by the Council. This would not be commissioned to an outside organisation.
