  • When recruiting CEOs or monitoring officers (including deputies), what legal qualifications (if any) do you require?
  • Do you accept CILEX Fellow status as a legal qualification to be equivalent to solicitors and barristers in their area of specialism, for the purposes of recruitment?

Response

  • There a no specific legal qualifications required to be a Monitoring Officer, however, the Council would require applicants to typically be a Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEX. Likewise, there are no specific education requirements to be a CEO, if the Council were to recruit to a CEO position we would look for high intellectual capacity, demonstrated through a degree and/or post grad qualification and/or membership of an appropriate profession and/or a managerial qualification ie MBA and evidence of continued professional development.
