Could you let me know how the housing numbers are faring against the pledge of building 200 new council houses every year - not any that have been bought, TA, Shared Owenrship, or Affordable rent - just the new council houses built per year by DDC against the pledge of 200 every year.

Clarification Question:

I require just the new homes that have been built directly by DDC for general stock. Not TA, shared ownership, affordable rent or bought by DDC.

You have referred to a 'pledge’, but officers are unsure what you mean by this. If by 'pledge' they are referring to a 'manifesto pledge' then we are unaware of what this is and therefore cannot comment.   However, if you referring to the Corporate Plan 2023-27, and in particular the following aim under Strategic Priority One: Improving our housing:

  • Providing at least an average of 200 additional council homes (new build and acquisitions) each year (800 in total over the term of this plan). We will use these homes for either general needs or temporary accommodation purposes.

Then the figure is, as has been previously reported to the Housing Working Group, 335 completions with 549 properties in the pipeline. 

It is also unclear what you mean by 'not any that have been bought, TA, Shared Ownership or Affordable Rent - just the new council houses built by DDC'  since by definition of the aim above, Temporary Accommodation, Shared Ownership and Affordable Rent would be included under 'additional council homes' (Shared Ownership and Affordable Rent being defined as general needs).  If you want a separation of acquisitions vs properties built by the Council, or a breakdown of the tenure types then this is something that can be provided.  Please let me know if this is the case.

The Development Team have confirmed the figures below are for Social Rent units only (they exclude Temporary Accommodation, Shared Ownership and Affordable Rent units).  DDC developments with social rent are as follows:
