Request

My research focuses on the long-term impact of local spending on public services, such as police and education. I am thus interested in collecting information on local authorities’ revenue expenditure and financing data since the early 2000s.

I am aware that these data are publicly available on the UK government website starting from the financial year 2007/08, but I would be interested in accessing data for earlier years.

Specifically, under the FOI legislation, I seek local authorities’ revenue expenditure and financing data data broken down by standard categories (education, housing, police, roads, health services, etc.) for the period spanning the financial years 1999/2000 to 2006/2007.

Ideally, I would like to access a data set organized in the same way as the publicly available data. If this was not possible, I would like to obtain a document containing the following columns:

Name of the local authority;

ONS statistical local authority identifier (preferability if it was the 2000 identifier, but either the 2011 or 2021 are also fine, but please, indicate which one you are using); Income available for educational services Expenditure made for educational services Same two columns (income and expenditure) for other budget items, such as housing, police, roads, social care, etc.

One row per year.

The Council does not hold the information you have requested going back to 1999/2000 and this is beyond our retention policy. Information from 2001/02 onwards is available from our published statement of accounts which are on our website at https://www.dover.gov.uk/Corporate-Information/Financial-Information/Budgets--Accounts.aspx. National Archives may hold the earlier information. Details of how to contact them are available on their website at https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/.
