Please provide the following data for your local authority area for each financial year from FY 2014/15 to FY 2024/25 (or the latest available year):

  1. The total number of business rates accounts (hereditaments) liable for business rates at year end.
  2. The total amount of business rates billed (£).
  3. The total amount of business rates collected (£).
  4. The total value of business rates arrears outstanding at year end (£).
  5. The number of business rates accounts in arrears at year end.
  6. The number of liability orders sought in respect of unpaid business rates.
  7. The number of cases referred to enforcement agents (bailiffs) for non-payment of business rates.

The information you have sought is set out in the attachment. Please note that we only hold the data from the financial year 2017/18, so have provided the information from that date. Details of the information used is as follows: 

  • Question 1: To obtain these figures we have used reports nearest to 1st April of each year and a count of individual property references.
  • Question 2: This is taken from the QRC4 return for each financial year
  • Question 3: This is taken from the QRC4 return for each financial year.
  • Question 4: This is taken from the QRC4 return for each financial year.
  • Question 5: To obtain these figures we have to use reports that have already been run in each of the financial years, as we are unable to run them retrospectively. We are unable to provide figures for the financial years 2017/18 and 2019/20, as the reports were not run in those years.
