Request
Will those responsible for the 1 km of wilful damage to wildlife rich vegetation along the Parade public land be made to pay compensation which in turn can be used to manage the land by White Cliffs Countryside Partnership?
Response
The vegetation, which was removed outside bird nesting season, was largely composed of alexanders and brambles and will therefore regenerate rapidly without any need for interventions. There are no additional costs incurred by the Council to regenerate the habitat therefore no cost of remediation. Officers already engage with the relevant parties to promote the Kingsdown and Walmer Local Wildlife Site, without seeking compensation, and we continue to manage the site according to the plan that was adopted by DDC’s Cabinet in October 2024.
