Request

  1. It was advertised some time ago that the Dover Roman Painted House would be open for February half term.  It was not open so why was it not open as planned?
  2. I witnessed numerous people trying to go in only to find it locked (shut).  Why was there was not even a notice displayed at the entrance to inform people it was closed for the half term week?
  3. Is the post box outside the building still in use?
  4. DDC intend to install double yellow lines outside the entrance to the Roman Painted House to stop the entrance from being obstructed.  Is it known when these double yellow lines will be installed and take legal effect as the problem is a daily one.

Response

  1. We have advertised the opening as Spring 2026. The opening times are on the Roman Painted House section of the Dover Museum’s website.
  2. The is a sign by the entrance to the Roman Painted House stating re-opening in April 2026 which was installed on Monday 3 November. The QR code directs to the Roman Painted House page on the museum website which also says re-opening April 2026.
  3. Yes.
  4. The changes to the Traffic Regulation Order are currently with Kent County Council for them to check and 'Seal the Order'.  We are expecting this to be sealed by Kent County Council on or around 12 March 2026.  Following this, and once the lines are in place, the road will become enforceable.
