This is a request for information using the FOI act for the following information:

For each of the following years respectively 2025-26, 2024-25, 2023-24, 2022-23 and 2021-22

Can you please tell me how many notices your officers have served in order to seize or detain food which was believed to have been imported illegally into the country   (e.g. Trade in Animal Related Products Notice)

What was the type of product of animal origin  – the type of meat, fish, dairy etc?

What was the total amount of seizures by weight for each year stated above?

What was the reason for the seizure?   (for example, lack of labelling, personal import found within catering business, no evidence of traceability etc.)

What was the location of the seizure?  Please specify the types of premises   (high street shop, restaurant, butcher, factory, abattoir etc)

What was the country of origin of the POAO that was seized?

How much of the POAO each year have you had to destroy (by weight)?

What was the cost to your council each year from seizures that required destruction for disposal purposes?

In respect of Port Health seizures the answer is zero.  Your request relates to formal action and the notices served at the Port have all been a voluntary surrender and we do not treat this as a formal notice.
