Community Housing Conferences

After careful consideration we decided to cancel the Community-Led Housing and Self-Build Mini Conference that was scheduled to take place on Friday 20 March 2020.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience, but in the current circumstances we felt this was the appropriate course of action.  We will be in touch about future events when things have settled down.

In the meantime, if you would like to discuss a community-led housing or self-build project, please contact the Community Housing team at communityhousing@dover.gov.uk

Speakers scheduled for upcoming events

Dr Henry Quinn from The Harmonia Village in Randolph Road, Dover will be a guest speaker at the event.  The site was developed on 6 derelict homes behind Buckland Hospital to create the UK’s first dementia village. The homes were adapted to help those suffering with dementia to live more independently.  Dr Quinn will be in attendance to discuss how they completed the project and the technology they are using to run the village.

Steve Charter, the Director from SC2 Sustainability Consultancy will be giving a speech on sustainable housing solutions.  He co-developed and delivered the UK's first "closing the (energy) performance gap" in buildings with his work with The Good Homes Alliance.  Steve has also written a study of sustainable housing design and delivery options for the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Bill Hampton from Project Etopia will be focusing on their pilot scheme Etopia Corby. The development is one of the highest performing (in terms of energy efficiency) and most eco-friendly developments in the UK.  The development has resulted in homes generating more energy then they consume, resulting in close to zero energy bills.

Jessica Hadleigh, Marketing Director from Thames Distribution will be doing a live demonstration of smart technology products and speaking about why it is important to think about new technology.

*Please note if there are any unforeseen circumstances speakers are subject to change.
