Dover District Council is welcoming news that its Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award has been renewed for another five years by the Ministry of Defence for actively supporting the armed forces community within the workplace.

DDC received the Gold Award in 2020 for a five year period, which means that we have maintained an exemplary standard, and that the Gold Award will have been in place for 10 years when renewal time comes round again in 2030.

To receive the award, organisations must demonstrate that they have supportive policies in place for veterans, reservists, cadet force adult volunteers, and spouses and partners of those serving in the armed forces.

Recipients also advocate the benefits of supporting those within the armed forces community encouraging others to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and to engage in the Employer Recognition Scheme.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

Cllr Kevin Mills, Leader of Dover District Council said: “We are delighted to welcome news that we have maintained Gold Award status. We remain committed to supporting the Armed Forces Covenant and armed forces communities across the district. This is an important recognition that we are an employer of choice and an acknowledgment of the hard work of everyone at the Council to maintain the highest standards.”
