A topping out ceremony was held today (Tuesday 27 Oct) to mark a key milestone in the construction of the new multi-million pound Deal Leisure Centre.
Representatives from Dover District Council and a range of partners joined together to mark the pivotal topping out stage of this exciting project, welcoming the completion of the highest point of the new building.
Invited guests for the day included representatives from development partner Alliance Leisure, construction contractors Pellikaan, and Everyone Active who are set to take on management of the leisure centre.
Dignitaries and guests, including the Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Susan Beer, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Deal, Cllr Mike Eddy and Christine Oliver, were invited to sign the steel frame of the new building to mark the occasion.
A range of facilities is set for the new building, including a six lane pool, gym, health and fitness studios including a ‘Reformer Studio’, pool inflatable fun sessions and a toddler splash pad, as well as a café. Enhanced accessibility includes a new platform lift and Changing Places facility.
Construction is due to be completed before the end of 2027.
This follows news in Oct 25 that it was all systems go for the new development, an update in Nov 25 that Everyone Active was to take on management of the leisure centre when it opened (and long term operations for the indoor tennis centre and sports hall from April 26), and news of the groundbreaking ceremony in March 26.
Cllr Kevin Mills, Leader of Dover District Council said: “We are delighted to see this topping out ceremony taking place, and to celebrate the excellent progress made on the construction of the new leisure centre in Deal. This is fantastic news and a brand new leisure centre with modern facilities is a major investment for our community.”
