Our service standards

We are committed to providing a high-quality waste and recycling service. To help us deliver this service effectively, there are some things we ask of residents, as well as commitments you can expect from us.

What we ask of residents

  • present your waste and recycling containers at the property boundary before 7am on your collection day
  • use the correct container for each type of waste and recycling
  • ensure recycling is empty, clean and dry wherever possible
  • keep container lids closed and do not leave excess waste beside bins, as we are unable to collect or clear waste that is not contained within an approved bin or container
  • break down large pieces of cardboard into a smaller manageable size
  • remove containers from the collection point as soon as possible after collection
  • keep containers clean and in a safe, serviceable condition
  • report damaged, lost or stolen containers to us by the end of the next working day following your scheduled collection
  • report missed collections by the end of the next working day following your scheduled collection
  • ensure access to containers is safe and unobstructed on collection day
  • store and manage waste responsibly to help keep neighbourhoods clean and free from litter and pests
  • follow any specific collection arrangements agreed with us, including assisted collections.

What you can expect from us

  • we will provide a regular household waste and recycling collection service in line with your property's agreed collection arrangements
  • we will publish collection information and keep residents informed of planned service changes
  • we will return containers to the point from which they were collected wherever practical
  • we will clear up any spillages caused by our collection crews. Any waste that is not contained within a container or bin on collection day is not the responsibility of the collection crews to clear
  • we will investigate reports of missed collections and return to collect where the collection was missed through our error
  • we will repair or replace containers damaged through the collection process, free of charge, provided the damage is reported within 24 hours of the collection
  • we will provide assisted collections for eligible residents who are unable to present containers themselves
  • we will offer clear guidance on what can and cannot be recycled
  • we will work to maximise recycling, reduce waste and protect the local environment
  • we will keep residents updated during periods of severe weather or other unforeseen disruption
  • we will treat residents fairly, courteously and consistently when delivering services
  • we will use our enforcement powers where necessary to address persistent misuse of the waste and recycling service.
